Zambia Missions Trip Report

Missions Report
Zambian Missions Ministries
April 7-25, 2009

PLACES OF MINISTRY:
Local and bush churches: 9
Schools: 3
Orphanage: 3
Literature Distribution: Numerous times
Discipleship of African Encounter Team: numerous times
Hospital: Nurse and staff fellowship 1
College: 1
Pastor’s Conference: 1 day
Leprosy Village: 1

At each of these places of ministry, the team shared in song and testimonies, and we distributed: clothes, school supplies, books, flip-flops, tooth brushes and paste, soap, toys, stuffed animals, soccer balls, team cds, wordless bracelets, and hundreds of Gospel tracts.

PASTOR’S CONFERENCE: 55 attended, which filled the building we used. Most of the pastors rode bicycles from great distances to attend and then they requested that the next time we have a 2-3 day conference. All pastors received a book by Andrew Murray on Humility and one by Charles Spurgeon on Trials. Tim St. Clair, Michael Golden, and Ardy Parlin shared in the teaching for the day and the team shared in music.

All the meetings required much travel each day for which Encounter rented a small bus.

Many prayed to trust the Lord as Savior even though a great deal of our time was ministering to believers.

The entire missions experience was probably the most effective and powerful time that we have had in the history of Encounter. We were able to communicate to nearly everyone in English. So many doors of opportunity were opened, and Leonard had the schedule arranged so we could cover a lot of ground while we were there. We had a wide variety of ministries which gave great challenge and valuable experience to all.

We spent part of a day on the property that Encounter purchased. The land is about 20 acres and already has vegetables already growing, corn fields and a great water supply from a river. Currently they are irrigating the gardens by water can, but we trust in the future to have a small pump to move the water over the gardens. On the other side of the property is ground that will be used for a Bible Institute and Camp. We have 3-4 termite hills which are good since this dirt is used to make the bricks. The local village, a very poor area, is very excited about Encounter being in the area.

FOLLOWING ARE SOME OF THE NEEDS AND PRAYER ITEMS AT THIS TIME:

1.    Leonard’s support needs to increase.
2.    The African Encounter general fund needs to increase.
3.    Leonard’s assistants need increased support (While Encounter already sends funds for these causes, we are praying and trusting that these will increase.)
4.    It seems that to impact the youth who are asking to be in Encounter and receive Bible training that a Bible Institute be started. This would be on the 20 acres so the students could help with the farm projects as a work program since they do not have funds.
5.    The team needs a bus. We have purchased a van which hold 8-10, but they need a larger unit.
6.    One of the national pastors that Encounter met in 2005 has a Bible School for “Bush Pastors” which has financial needs. We estimate they need $300 per month.

If you would like to become part of the support team for African Encounter, please contact our office for more details. Checks can be made payable to Encounter and marked “Zambia ministry.”
