I Chronicles 16:7-34

Count Your Blessings

These children in Zambia are rejoicing that they now have a place to call home.  They now have beds, food for each meal, a house to call their own, and caretakers that protect, guide, teach, and love them as God has provided through gracious and kind believers.

As we enjoy the multitude of blessings that flood our life each day, we need to remember “that every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.” (James 1:17)  How often we take all of these “things” for granted and do not think about thanking God for the abundance that we enjoy.  A vast number of people around the world do not have safe water to drink, adequate food for each day, a place to call home, medicines, and needed supplies for everyday life as we know it.

The song writer gives us a great challenge to “count your blessings, name them one by one.”  Maybe it would be good now to take a notebook and list your blessings and give thanks to God for His provisions, protection, grace, and mercy.  As we thank God for all we have, it is possible that He would remind us how we could share some of our blessings with people in need.

A grateful heart and life are balanced with a giving spirit that joyfully helps others. (Luke 10:30-37)

Be Thankful

It is exciting to acknowledge and give thanks to God.  These believers in Zambia gather around desks that have been provided for their children’s school to give thanks to God.

Each day we are showered with blessings beyond that which we can count.  These blessings include life, health, food, clothing, housing, transportation, friends, money, water, heat, air-conditioning, direction, protection, wisdom, and many more.  It is easy just to take all of these blessings for granted and forget the goodness of God. Don’t forget James 1:17, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

A thankful attitude opens the daily door of life to see the gracious hand of God in new and refreshing ways.  In a world of convenience and easy access, one is often caught up in self-reliance and self-sufficiency which crowds out thankfulness to God.

Take a few moments now to thank God for His blessings in your life.
