The building of an obedient and strong Christian life is one choice and decision at a time. Just as these workers in Zambia prepare bricks to build the children’s home one brick at a time, so our life is built in the same fashion.
In a society of instant and quick things, we often forget that it is in the daily decisions and choices that our life is made strong or weak. What seem like “little” factors eventually turn out to be vital ingredients to life. The “little” choice to do that which is contrary to Scripture seems almost insignificant but piles up day after day to create more problems than one could imagine.
Waiting for the verdict from the judge, the person under investigation thinks often of the many “little” things that never should have been done and said. We must be careful each day to exercise self-control in all the details of life. Just as bricks eventually add up to enough to make a house, our decisions and choices add up to make a life.
“Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody else expects of you. Never excuse yourself. Be a hard master to yourself and be lenient to everybody else.” Henry Ward Beecher
