Friendship

One of the great joys in life is to become close friends with others.  Being friendly, kind, and caring is often ignored as we hurry our way through life to get more projects done.  Our focus is often on self and the things that we want, and we expect others to be friendly and kind.  Often we are like the guy sitting at a table all by himself.  When asked why he was by himself, he responded, “I just wanted to see if anyone would come and sit with me.”

Being friendly, kind, caring, and merciful brings great joy and is a testimony of the work of God in our life. (Matthew 5:13-16)

We can be friendly by

  • Saying a good word (Proverbs 25:17)
  • Helping a friend in need (Luke 10:25-37)
  • Listening and caring (I Corinthians 13)
  • Forgiving and forgetting (Matt 18:21-35)
  • Not gossiping or sharing unnecessary things (Proverbs 17:9)

It is a great joy to cultivate and develop friendships.  Having friends involves reaching out to others and making friends.

“Don’t take friendship for granted…Friendship is giving and sharing of yourself. Someone is not a good friend because he or she does good things for you all the time.  It’s friendship when you do good things for each other.”  John Wooden
